Mildred “Poochie” Smith, 66, of Alliance passed away suddenly on Friday December 11, 2020 at her home. She was born on February 20,1954 in Alliance, Ohio to the late Alice L. (Nicholson) Bradshaw and Alanson “Lance” Carter, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Alliance.
Mildred was a proud member of the 1972 graduating class of Alliance High School. She was a past member of the Gladys Merrell Temple. She was a member of Second Baptist Church since childhood, and served the church in many capacities including assisting with vacation bible school, co-chair of the kitchen committee for 25 years, various positions in the Nurse’s Guild, and the church secretary for over 20 years. She served in any way she could and never said no.
Mildred was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing books with friends and family. She also enjoyed crocheting and had recently decided to make scarves to donate to those in need. She was also a very talented seamstress.Mildred was a phenomenal cook and was known in the community for her macaroni and cheese, making it whenever anyone asked her to. She enjoyed talking on the phone to her friends and family. She loved the Cleveland Browns and was ecstatic that they were having a winning season. Mildred was very family oriented and enjoyed doting on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would do anything anyone asked of her. She was a great woman who will be sorely missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Angela F. J. Bradshaw-Taylor and Ambrose J. T. Smith, Sr. both of Alliance, a sister, Christine Mosely of Pennington AL, a brother Earnest “Pat” Carter of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Lance, Chantelle, Shayne, Zayna, Kierra, Ambrose Jr, Zaviona, and Isaiah. She was also a very proud Grammy to her 6 great-grandchildren, Quincy, Kendel, Mia, Alainna (Lee Lee), Devon Jr, Sinaé, and Tristan. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, her best friend of 46 years, Ellen “Pinkey” Tate. Mildred also leaves her grand-pups Diezel and Winchester “Pup Pup”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice L. Bradshaw and Lance Carter, brothers Robert L. Nicholson, Leonard Carter, Lance Carter, and Chuckie Carter.
