Willie Edward Parmer, affectionately known as Pete, earned his Heavenly Wings on March 22, 2022. Willie was born December 8, 1942 to the late Waymon and Cora L. Parmer in Clayton, AL. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Clayton, AL.
Willie attended Barbour County Training School in Clayton, AL. He attended Tuskegee Inst in AL. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged as a Drill Sgt. in April 1970.
Willie moved to Akron, OH, united with Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Tyson. To that union two daughters were born, Michelle and Sharmelle. As a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, he served in many leadership roles beginning as a Trustee and later accepting the role of Church Treasurer. He also coordinated men’s ministry and church activities such as our outdoor worship service and community day. He loved his church family.
Willie was employed by Goodyear Aerospace, General Tire and Rubber Co., and B&C Research until his retirement. He was an active member of Victor Lodge #7 Masons for many years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Waymon Parmer, Jr, and Daniel Parmer. Sisters, Emmaline Wilborn and Cora A. Parmer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Tyson Parmer, devoted daughters, Michelle Parmer and Sharmelle and her devoted husband Ezra ‘luk’ Kelley who he considered his son. Two grandchildren, Zyan Sheffield and Laila Kelley of Akron, OH. Sisters, Mary Buckley of Rockford, IL, Diane, and Dorothy Parmer of Akron, OH. Brothers, Bishop Charles (Debra) Parmer, of Cleveland, OH, Oscar Parmer of Inglewood, CA, William (Carol) Parmer, Fredrick Parmer, Dennis (Patricia) Parmer all of Akron, OH. In-laws, Clara Maynie, Chicago, IL, Tommie Tyson, Lula Thomas and Jackie Tyson of MD, Olympia (Bobby) Smith of Huntsville AL, Georgia Tyson of Birmingham, AL, James (Evelyn) Tyson, N. Carolina, Grover(Lonnie) Tyson, Savannah, GA. Special friends, Larry and Janis Valrie, The Gunn family, Clifford and Betty Curtis, Curtis and Cynthia Wallace, Jackie Williams, and Barbara Leathers.
