Allen James McGuire, also known as “AJ”, earned his wings peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2022. He was born on January 5, 1932, to the late Charley and Sarah (Goodwin) McGuire Jr. in Sardis, Alabama.
Allen received Christ at an early age. he was athletic; he played on the Championship Basketball Team at Shiloh Heights High School in Alabama. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army, where he received honors. After his tour of duty, Allen married the late Evangelist Dorothy “Dot” Mae McGuire with whom he shared four children and fifty-four years of marriage until her passing. Allen owned and operated “The McGuire’s Convenient Store” in Alabama. He also worked at the United States Post Office, Akron General Tires, and Broadview Veterans Hospital, retiring after 30 years of service. He was experienced as a Boxer in the Military. He regaled about fighting in the same weight class as Muhammad Ali. He would share tales of taking a “shot for the title.” Mr. McGuire earned the title of one of the Greatest Fathers on Leroy Street. He would buy bicycles for his children and teach other children on Leroy Street how to ride a bike. He was a major Cleveland sports fan, cheering on the Guardians (Indians), Browns, and the Cavaliers, and he was an avid fan of Lebron James. He enjoys dancing and particularly singing in a Gospel group with His Brothers, the “McGuire Brothers.” Allen is also known for playing the Ohio Lottery as one of his hobbies. His wife “Dot” would say, “Allen, you should have been a mathematician.” Mr. Allen James McGuire will be greatly missed by his loved ones, family, and friends. Allen was a dog lover; and famous in his neighborhood for making lifelong friends. He would take his cool breeze suave walks throughout the neighborhood, greeting everyone with a smile or comical story. Allen James McGuire was preceded in death by; parents, Charley and Sarah (Goodwin) McGuire; wife, Evangelist Dorothy “Dot” McGuire; brothers, Thomas McGuire, Andrew Charley “AC” McGuire, Clarence McGuire, David McGuire, and Simon McGuire. He leaves to mourn his memory; sons, Tyrell McGuire, of Bakersfield, California, Nyere McGuire, Paul McGuire, and daughter Sherry McGuire; grandchildren, Lenea McGuire, of Fresno, California, Tyree Burch Paredes, of Hanford, California, Paul McGuire Jr., and Paiton McGuire; great-grandchild, Nehemiah Isaac Paredes, of Hanford, California, and a host of other family and friends. |
