Irene Smith, 99, of Akron, Ohio, by way of Newark, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on November 27, 2022.
Irene Threatt was born in Monongah, West Virginia, to Wilson Threatt and Dollie Threatt on September 23, 1923. Irene had a special gift. She served as an anchor for the family. She embodied the meaning of family and always had chicken in the oven and a seat available at her table. Her doors stayed open for out-of-town family and after-hours jaunts. You always knew you could stop by Aunt Irene’s, Mom’s, and Grandma’s and see family and have a laugh. She was blessed with seven siblings. Two sisters, Ollie Mae(Nathaniel) Washington and Marzella(Frank) Brown. Five brothers, Edgar Threatt, Marcus Threatt, Wilson Threatt, Robert(Rowena) Threatt, and Vaughn(Mary) Threatt. From the unions of her siblings, Irene had a host of very special nieces and nephews that were very close to her heart, and if you messed with any of them, she would cut ya deep.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Moses Smith, and sons, Reginald Stewart and Michael Stewart.
She leaves to cherish her memory; sons Donald (Francis) Harris, Edgar Harris, Fayyaadh Lateef, and James Stewart. A host of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. As well as many great nieces and nephews, all of whom she spoiled to the bone.
