A. Bradley McClain passed away on August 4, 2023.
He was an educator and an attorney. He was born November 12, 1948, in Akron, Ohio to Andrew H. McClain and Margaret L. McClain.
A. Bradley graduated from The University of Akron School of Law with a J.D. and a B.A. in English and an M. Ed. from Kent State University.
He worked faithfully for many years as a Director of the Upward Bound Program. He was beloved by generations of Upward Bound students with whom he stayed in contact until his passing.
He practiced law in Akron for many years.
He was an ordained deacon in the Universal Hagar’s Spiritual Church and a member of the Royal Chapter of the Knights of the All Seeing Eye. He was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and the NAACP.
Among his hobbies was a fervent interest in genealogy. He was a student of African American literature and history and jazz. He was an author of a book about his great grandfather, Cephas Burns known as “The Stone Mason” who built stone bridges and other structures at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He wrote several articles on his great-great grandfather Peter Bruner, a family patriarch, also a resident of Oxford, Ohio.
He preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Ann and Rosemary McClain.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; son, Andew B. McClain II; grandsons, Andrew Bradley III, Austin and Alexander McClain; granddaughter, Alivia McClain; beloved son, Peter Bruner McClain and nephew, Bradley L. McKenney.
