In the heart of winter, a beautiful silver rose, Aleather Cuadra, was born on February 8th 1941 to Pomp and Estella Beatrice Carlisle in Brundige, Alabama. She was the second oldest of eight children. At the age of three, her family moved to Akron, OH where she was raised. While growing up in Akron, Aleather, who was affectionately called Toot, attended Lane Elementary School and South High School. After marrying at age 23 and giving birth at age 25 to her only child, Sadanyah Flowing Water, Aleather moved to Long Island, NY, where she lived for most of her adult life. In New York she attended Nassau Community College and majored in Fashion Buying and Merchandising.

In the early to mid 70’s Aleather and her best friend, Melvina Barksdale (RIP), co-founded a social club called the Gardenias. The club often served as an outlet for Aleather’s artistic abilities and love for fashion designing and sewing. She created flyers by hand using calligraphy and modeled outfits she made with or without a pattern at events the Gardenias hosted. Art was so much a part of her. She drew and painted until a few weeks before transitioning into glory to be with the Creator. She even co-illustrated a children’s book titled AWÁN NA? with her grandson, Shajuan Jackson, which is scheduled for publication in December 2023.

Aleather loved working and creating things with her hands. She eventually found an outlet for her creative spirit in the electronic industry. She spent 40 years of her life following blueprints to build electrical components for private companies, The United States Military and NASA. Aleather, whom her daughter, granddaughter and grandson called Mommer, was known for her quiet strength and overall beauty, inside and out. She enjoyed participating in family night, which consisted of poetry workshops, game and movie nights, painting and holiday parties. Mommer never missed any of the major milestones in her grandchildren’s lives. She attended all their birthdays, school plays, award ceremonies and graduations. She supported their dreams and was always someone her family could count on. She taught them what loyalty, love, strength and dignity looks like. She was regal, a true Queen, their Silver Rose.

Aleather is preceded in death by Father Pomp Carlisle, Mother Estella Beatrice Carlisle, Oldest Sister Leatrice Brown (Robert Brown-deceased) and Brother Willie Clarence Carlisle. She is survived by her Daughter Sadanyah Flowing Water, Granddaughter Tashi Sade Thomas, Grandson Shajuan Akeem Jackson, Sister Melva Booker, Sister Lovie Mingle, Brother Pomp Carlisle, Jr. (Edna Carlisle-deceased), Sister Rennera “Renee” Batties (Thomas Batties-deceased), Sister Paulette Partridge (Louis Partidge), a special niece raised as a sister Masana Fullum (William Fullum) and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family & friends.
