Michael L. Andrew “Mike”, surrounded by his family, earned his angel wings on August 22, 2019 after a brief illness.
A lifelong Akron native, Mike was born on May 16, 1962, to adoring parents Alex and Marguerite Andrew. The youngest of seven brothers and close in age to his nephews and nieces, Mike enjoyed the love, companionship, and support from his large family. He would later take on the role of family organizer, making sure to keep the family connected by scheduling family gatherings and keeping in touch with everyone.
A product of the Akron Public Schools, Mike graduated firm Central-Hower High School in 1980. He attended Antioch Baptist Church, the home church of his parents, for many years. Upon graduation, he worked at Swenson’s Drive-In Restaurant before starting Andrew Landscaping.
Mike was a sports enthusiast. He was a long-suffering Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Cavalier’s fan. Mike never missed a chance to play dominos or throw darts.
Combining his love of sports with his passion for mentoring young people during the 1990s, he volunteered as the assistant coach for the three-time Championship White Sox baseball team (Little League baseball). He went on to coach in the West Akron Little League (W.A.L.L.) with his son Alex, where he demonstrated continued success as a coach and a mentor.
Mike was an accomplished pianist as a youngster, and his love of music was a major part of his earthly journey, from gospel music to his favorite rhythm and blues band Parliament-Funkadelics.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents Alex and Marguerite Andrew; bonus father, Paul W. Evans; brothers John W. Evans, and Roosevelt “Scooter” Evans; sister in law, Daisy Andrew; nephew Dennis L. Evans; and great-nephew, Paul “J.R.” Evans.
Left to cherish Michael’s legacy are: son, Alex Andrew of Akron, Ohio; brothers, Paul (Lillie) Evans, of Munroe Falls, Ohio, Alex L Andrew of Akron, Ohio, Robert “Baunchi” Andrew of Atlanta, Georgia, Loring Evans of Chicago, Illinois, and Michael D. ( Yvonne) Evans of Charlotte, North Carolina; along with his Sweetheart Beverly Johnson, of Akron, Ohio; best friend, Allan Thomas of Green, Ohio; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, employees, and customers.
