Edith (Edyie) Walker Graham, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 85, on Friday, August 9, 2024, after a brief illness. Her final days were spent at home surrounded by her loving family.
Edith was born on February 25, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Rev. David and Lillie Smith Caldwell. She attended South High School and worked in various roles throughout her life. A devoted member of New Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Edith found joy in spending time with her family and capturing precious moments with her radiant smile in photographs.
Edith was preceded in death by her son, David Caldwell; brothers, Al, Wentford, Elijah, and Foster Caldwell; brother-in-law, John Dorsey; and sisters, Anna Pearl Carter, Cladine Bryant, Roberta Jeffries, and Delores Dorsey; as well as her sister-in-law, Billie Caldwell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Robin Brown and Cheryl (William) VanDyke; her son, Robert Walker, all of Akron, Ohio; and her special grandchildren, Cameron (Miranda) VanDyke, Chanel (Mitchell) Phelps of Cleveland, Ohio, and Marcella Barclay. Edith was also the proud great-grandmother of Mylee Phelps. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Edith had a special love for her cousins in Indiana and Michigan, whom she frequently visited in her younger years.
Edith will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.
Friends may call on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. Interment Glendale Cemetery.
