Fate Richard Davis, known and loved by many, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Akron, Ohio. Born Richard Elon Blackwell on October 8, 1958, he was later adopted by his stepfather, Fate Davis Jr., and his name was changed to Fate Richard Davis.
As a young child, Richard was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, beginning a life rooted in faith. He attended South High School, where he was an active and engaged student, participating in the Chess Club and the Bowling Team. Richard had a passion for dancing, which led him to join “The Jokers,” a dance group that performed in school and community talent shows, bringing joy to all who watched.
Throughout his life, Richard held various jobs, but it was his love for the simple pleasures that truly defined him. He enjoyed playing Keno and cherished the time he spent at choir practice with his cousin, Brenda. Richard’s infectious spirit and love for life touched everyone he met.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Blackwell; his stepfather, Fate Davis Jr.; and his mother, Georgia Lee Davis.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing his sisters, Patricia Penix-Nixon, Sheila Jean Warren, and Charlene Blackwell-Franklin, all of Akron, Ohio; Charles Edward Blackwell of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Judith Lynn Blackwell- Lee (Ronnie) of Norton, Ohio; Jeannette Blackwell of Chicago, IL; and Felicia Blackwell, Evette Blackwell-Tolton, and Johnnie Rodriguez, all of Pittsburgh, PA.
Richard is also survived by his best friend, Leon “Mike” Graves, and Elder Phyllis Graves, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Fate Richard Davis will be remembered for his warm heart, his joy for life, and the love he shared with all those who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends, who will miss him deeply.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, OH 44230.
