Surrounded by his family, Orville Eugene Oliver, 68, passed away on November 7th, 2024. He was born August 12th, 1956, in New Albany, Indiana to Charles and Alice Oliver. He was a proud graduate of Baldwin Wallace College where he earned a BA in psychology and graduated with a JD from Marshall School of Law in 1992. Orville was a talented musician, a dedicated dad, a glorious grandfather, a faithful husband, supportive brother, and a stellar son. In addition to being a pillar for his family, he was also an excellent employee. He served as a claims adjuster for 38 years retiring in 2017.

Before Orville’s career took shape he met Julia at Baldwin Wallace College. They became college sweethearts, graduating with psychology degrees. In 1980 they were married. This college connection led to an amazing 44 year marriage. During their journey together they built a family. Orville’s four children Brittany, Joseph, Jared, and Courtney captured his heart and made each day meaningful. 2017 was a definitive year, as Orville transitioned from a full time claims adjuster to becoming a full time grandpa to Adam. His heart for others was huge and his desire to support others led to him serving his church as a mentor in the Adam Program which was designed to provide support to inner city young men.

He not only improved his community by becoming a mentor he also enjoyed sharing his love of music all over the greater Akron area. Jazz was the soundtrack of Orville’s life! He enjoyed the musical stylings of Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, and many others. These Jazz greats inspired him to play several instruments, most notably electric, acoustic, and bass guitar. Over the course of his life he played with several jazz ensembles and gospel choirs- composing several pieces along the way.

Orville is now reunited with his father, Charles Oliver; Sister Rosiland (Oliver) Reed, and brother Charles Oliver. His mother Alice Oliver Coleman, wife: Julia Oliver, children: Brittany Oliver, Joseph Oliver, Jared Oliver, and Courtney Danilovic, grandchild: Adam Danilovic, brothers: Keith (Gail) Oliver, William (Marie) Oliver, sisters: Linda Oliver, Cynthia (Marvin) Mitchell, and Caprice Coleman; and nieces, nephews, and a multitude of relatives and friends are eternally inspired by his spirit.

Calling hours will be on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 10 am until 11 am at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd, Akron, OH 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. All friends and family are welcome.
