Karrington Whatley

Karrington LaMont Whatley, lovingly known as “KK,” passed away surrounded by love and family on December 3, 2024. Born September 9, 1960, in Akron, Ohio, to Robert and Tommie Lee Whatley, KK lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear.

A proud graduate of South High School’s Class of 1979, KK excelled as an avid wrestler and basketball player, earning the respect of teammates and classmates alike. After high school, he continued his education at Cuyahoga Community College and honorably served four years in the United States Army. Upon returning home, KK had a successful career with Ryder Trucking.

In 1984, KK married Marquita Price, and together they welcomed two beloved children, daughter Jihaun and son Karrington II. Later in life, KK found his soulmate and life partner, Natisha “TT” Sommerville-Dent. Together, they formed a blended family rooted in love, trust, and cooperation—a testament to KK’s ability to bring people together.

Known for his infectious smile and lively personality, KK was truly the life of every gathering. Whether donning his Cleveland Browns gear or enjoying a Miller High Life, he had a way of brightening the room. His heart of gold and willingness to always lend a hand made him a cherished friend, a devoted uncle, and a father figure to many. KK’s greatest joys were being a dad to Jihaun, “VIP” to his late son Karrington II, and “Poppa G” to his granddaughter Karrington III.

KK was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Tommie Lee Whatley; his son, Karrington II; brothers Dale and Leanardo Whatley; God-brother Thomas Suddeth; God-mother Cheri McGregor; and aunt and uncle, Alfred and Gloria Terry.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his daughter Jihaun; life partner Natisha “TT” Sommerville-Dent; brothers Johnny (Denise) Whatley and Anthony Whatley; sister Sherrie Daniels; god-sister Mimi (Dave) Warren; sister-in-law Brenda Suddeth; aunt and uncle Arthur and Berniece Buck; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Phillip, Chesarae, Jonathon, Thomas, Juan, Cameron, Donnie, Troy, Cory, Dupri, Michelle, Robyn Lynn, Nicole, Courtney, Angela, Esha, Shannon, and Robyn. Special friends Dante (Stacie), Duane, Marcus Stiggers, Gino, Thomas, and Robert also held a special place in his heart.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Staff at Summa Hospital and Ms. Janice Sommerville for the loving care and support provided during KK’s final days. To all family and friends, your outpouring of love and comfort during this time has been deeply appreciated.

KK will forever be remembered as a man who prioritized family, radiated joy, and left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be missed but lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
