Arenez Walker passed away on November 7, 2025.

Arenez Walker, affectionately known as “Nez,” was born on February 17, 1928, in Moscow, Arkansas, to the late Perry and Ora Johnson. At the age of 14, she relocated to Akron, Ohio, in 1942, where she built a meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service.

Nez worked diligently in various roles, primarily in domestic work, and took great pride in everything she did. A woman of deep faith, she cherished her family and treasured the time spent together during holidays, Sundays, and summertime gatherings. Her joy came from playing Bid Wiz, traveling, and her love of motorcycles. She also enjoyed listening to the blues with her sisters and friends and was happiest at fish fries surrounded by loved ones.

In 2008, Nez became an active member of the NAACP, reflecting her lifelong commitment to community and justice. She joined Mount Calvary Church on May 14, 1995, and was baptized on June 4, 1995, under the leadership of Pastor Jeffrey Dennis, whom she deeply admired. As a proud member of the Nurses Guild, she served faithfully and later became a beloved Mother of the Church. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, which she held close to her heart. Nez loved to fellowship with the saints and found joy in working on puzzles and spending time with Pastor Streeter.

Arenez was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Larry, Ora, and James; grandchildren, Dawayne, Christopher, and Leon; sisters, Ernestine Williams, Evalina Honorable, and V’Essie Alford; and brothers, Ernest, Cleophis, and Alfred McMoore.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gail (Ronnie) Walker Norwood; sons, Temp and Johnnie (Wyroa) Walker; special grandchildren, Dion and Inez Walker; sixteen grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family takes comfort in knowing that Arenez’s soul is now anchored with the Lord—free from pain and suffering, resting in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 442 Bell Street Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery.
