Vivian Hendon passed away on November 4, 2025.
Vivian was born on June 26, 1956, in Laurel, Mississippi, to the union of Eugene and Evelyn Hendon. She accepted Christ at a young age and carried her love for the Lord throughout her life.
Having spent most of her life in Akron, Ohio, Vivian attended Akron Public Schools and worked faithfully for many years as a Nursing Assistant, a role that reflected her caring and compassionate nature.
Vivian loved her family deeply and was happiest when surrounded by them. She was the life of the party at every family gathering, bringing joy, laughter, and warmth wherever she went. Vivian enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, and traveling—especially her beloved cruises. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Evelyn Hendon; son, Derrick Hendon; sister, Jean Cantrell-Surles; brothers, Gary, Terry, and Jimmy Hendon; brother-in-law, Beasley Surles; nephew, Donnie Cantrell; niece, Nina Cantrell Brown; grandparents, Nathan and Lillie Mae Evans; aunts, Louise and Betty Lockhart, Jocelyn Evans, Gloria Jean Evans, and Lillie Carol Evans; and uncles, Nathan Evans and Pastor Billy Evans.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her daughter, Tina (Hendon) Evans; sons, Earvin, Eric, and Michael Hendon; brothers, Nathan (Betty) Hendon and Kenny Hendon; uncles, Jesse Green of Washington, D.C., Robert (Helen) Evans of Chicago, IL, John (Jewela) Evans, and Frank (Bobbie Jean) Evans, all of Laurel, MS; grandchildren, Monique (Trevor) Jenkins, Christopher Hendon, Danne and Dannae Evans, Khamarun, Gavin, Rayshawn, Serena’, and Le’ona Hendon; 19 great-grandchildren; her longtime best friend and sister, Janice “Auntie Jan” Lewis; special friends, Carolyn “Binky” Pitts, Wilma Jean Collins, Viola Wright, and Michael Turner; along with a host of other loving family and friends.
Vivian’s vibrant spirit, loving heart, and joyful laughter will forever be remembered. Though she has gone to her eternal rest, her memory and love will continue to live on through all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
