Virginia Lee Jones, a woman of steadfast dedication and fierce strength, passed away December 23, 2025, peacefully in Detroit, MI at the home of her primary caregiver, daughter, Jo Ann Jones leaving a legacy of love and eternal hope for the future. She was born in Florence, South Carolina, September 25, 1932, to Samuel and Annie McCray and was their only child.
Snookie, as she was affectionally called by family and friends, carried herself with love, confidence and positivity. Those who knew her best described her as determined, family oriented, protective and straightforward.
The professional career of Virginia was of the highest esteem. For more than 25 years, she was employed by Akron Juvenile Court as the first Black Court Reporter.
Virginia often enjoyed playing cards with special friends and attending various social gatherings. We all know her beverage of choice was Pepsi Cola.
From the union of Virginia’s first marriage to Robert J. Jeter, her daughter Pamela Jeter was born. Later in life she married Johnny J. Jones, Sr. and from this union Johnny J. Jones, Jr. and Jo Ann Jones were born. For years Virginia was an devout member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and served as an Usher.
Preceded in death by her parents and son, Johnny J. Jones, Jr. and longtime companion, Robert Brown, she leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters Pamela Jeter of N. Hollywood, CA. and Jo Ann Jones of Detroit, MI., (grand pup, Django Unleashed) granddaughter, Pharrin A. Lewis of Calif., and specials, sister-in-law, Jean Jones of Las Vegas, NV. and nephews Robert and Kenny Terry.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. Internment Glendale Cemetery.
