In Loving Memory Of

Linda Ivery

Sunrise: March 3, 1950
Sunset: January 11, 2026

Linda Ivery passed away on January 11, 2026.

On March 3, 1950, a baby girl was born and that baby girl grew into a great woman and she praised God wherever she went. On January 11, 2026, God came and took that great woman into His kingdom and he gave her rest from all of the worries that come with life. She was the mother of one son, Antione L. “Tony” Mitchell and beloved grandmother of 4 grandsons. Linda was a hard worker and very conscientious about every job that she undertook to do, she worked for Akron City Hospital (currently Summa Health System) for 53 years, in those 53 years she was employed as a nurse’s aide, a special procedures and nuclear medicine secretary. After 50 years of service she retired August 11, 2022, she then returned back to Summa to work in the Breast Center for 3 more years. During her initial time at Summa, she took up a part-time position at Ritzman Pharmacy for 7 years. She also worked at Rob’s Place at Akron University for a year and a half and Walmart for 6 months until her illness prevented her from working. She volunteered at the Open M market, The Salvation Army on Maple Street, she had a ministry at The Haven of Rest, and she also had a Santa ministry where she helped provide a Christmas for children that would not have otherwise had one. At her church home, The House of the Lord (where she joined February 25, 2019) Linda was the “Unofficial Gatekeeper”, an official greeter, a faithful member of The Creative Women Designed by God class, and the bereavement team “She encouraged the class through her example of walking through her fiery trial with cancer, praising God through it all.”

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sr. and Velma R. Mitchell; brothers, Frank Jr. and Floyd Mitchell; sister, Diane Mitchell-McMillan; grandson, Tyronn D.T. Mitchell.

Left to mourn this great loss are brothers, Randolph “Bicky”, Eugene (Joyce), and Dale Mitchell; sisters, Lois J. Gardner (of Birmingham, Alabama), Shirley A. Hamilton, and sister, Barbara J. Mitchell-King (Stan); 3 grandsons that she left behind Cameron Mitchell, Cameron Milirons and Brendan Greene. Linda was also blessed to have a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; special friends, LaConia Reynolds White, Vicki Arnold, Diane Neloms, and Terry and Roberta Pluto.

Linda would like to thank her entire Summa family, including those in Nuclear Medicine, The Breast Center, Jeannette Doria, Former Summa CEOs Nancy Schlichting and Tom Strauss, Dr. David E. Custodio, Dr. John Michael Lahorra, Dr. Eric and Mrs. Carol Blum, Dr. William & Mrs. Betty Taylor, Dr. Michael Gedeon (Primary Care Physician), and Dr. Ghassan F. Khayyat (Neurosurgeon). Many thanks to Peggy and Bonnie for a home visit and to those that made Linda’s final day and a half, which she spent in Summa hospice, as peaceful as possible. If you weren’t mentioned by name it didn’t mean that she didn’t love you, she loved everyone at Summa!

And much love to Linda’s Village at New Seasons friends that are far too many to name that turned into family. As well as the management, Charles, Alex, Chuck, and Pam.
As her sister, Barbara, I was honored to be her caregiver for a month, ensuring that she had fresh juice and fresh water (those that know exactly what the joke is behind the juice and water will understand that statement!). I am so very grateful as her sister that Linda had the presence of mind to tell me how she wanted her obituary to be written, including the people that were singled out for the special role that they played in her life. And I think this goes without saying, but Linda, I love you.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at The House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Rd. Akron, OH 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
