Dolores Michelle Whaley, also known as G-Mom, was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Barbara & Thomas Whaley on January 19, 1954. Dolores moved to Akron with her parents in 1958. Dolores was the eldest of four siblings. Dolores attended St. John the Baptist elementary school, Our Lady of the Elms middle school and graduated from John R. Buchtel High School. Dolores went on to further her education earning her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron, Master’s Degree from Kent State University, and was currently pursuing her Doctorate degree.

Dolores held various jobs while in college working as a lifeguard at Perkins pool and as dispatcher for the Akron Police Department, prior to starting her career as a lifelong educator. She worked as a teacher for Canton City and Akron Public Schools for many years, retiring in August 2019 from Akron Public Schools. Dolores taught Physical Science, Biology and Chemistry at the junior high and high school level for more than 30 years. She loved being a teacher and working with inner-city youth, helping them to realize their potential and achieve their goals. Dolores was also a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

Dolores was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking, and watching Sci Fi movies. Dolores also loved to spend time with her sister Polly and going to visit with her mother any chance that she could.

Dolores was also a faithful member of St. Sebastian Parish and attended Mass every Sunday.

Dolores was preceded in death by her father Thomas Major Whaley Sr., grand-children Aarion Epps, and TY’Yana Gisentaner.

Dolores leaves to cherish her loving memory, mother Barbara Whaley of Houston, TX, siblings Thomas Whaley Jr.(Marina) of Leesburg VA, Mary (Polly) Whaley of Barberton OH, and Lynn Jeffries of Houston, TX. Children Homell (Tommy) Calhoun, Barbara Calhoun, Rebecca Calhoun, Matthew Gisentaner, all of Akron and Timothy Gisentaner of Missouri City TX, step-children John Gisentaner, Brian Gisentaner, and Chris (Kristi) Gisentaner, grandchildren Asmar Epps, Melvin Terry, Mia Gisentaner, Timothy Gisentaner, Matt Gisentaner, Micah Gisentaner, Zoe Gisentaner, Bailey Gisentaner, Nova Gisentaner, and Conner Gisentaner, great-grandchildren Avien Epps, Avier Epps, and Malani Terry, special friends Frederick Gisentaner, Evita Ely and Tiffany Lundy-Martin, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
