Archie B. Barker, 87, of Akron, Ohio, transitioned to eternal rest in the Kingdom of Heaven on July 6, 2020. Archie was born March 20, 1933 in Yellow Bluff, Alabama to his late parents, June and Elnora Barker. In 1949, he ventured to Akron in pursuit of opportunity.
Archie was a hardworking man, earning his livelihood as a long-distance truck driver. He consistently labored in the trucking industry for over 30 years, being employed by several companies, including Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for nearly thirteen years, Smith Transfer Company, Inc for ten years, and USF Holland Company for fifteen years.
Archie enjoyed plain pleasures. He loved his cars, mostly Cadillacs, and they were toned-down colors of burgundy and brown. Hunting and fishing were his perfect pastime; spending spare time doing the simpler things in life brought him satisfaction. He was involved with civic affairs through his affiliation at the Cornerstone Lodge #59. He was a long-standing member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
Archie lived a simple life, all his life. He was an uncomplicated man, easy to understand. He was an unassuming man, modest and decent. He was a praying man, assured of his Salvation in Jesus Christ. He was a contented man, peacefully satisfied with his life then, his life now, and his life hereafter.
Archie was preceded in death by children, Danny E. King, Francis Walker, Arthur L. Barker, Tracy Barker, and Michael Sibley-Barker; brothers, Robert Barker and Damon Barker; and sister, Sarah H. Ervin.
Archie leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Melinda Barker-Garland, Terri Barker-Wilson, and Toni Barker-Gulley; son, Kenneth Barker; brothers, JB Barker and Arthur Barker; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; very special friend, Elizabeth Ivery; and a host of relatives and loving friends.
