Belzie Carson, 91, affectionally called “Keenie” by her family, was called to eternal rest on the morning of Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Belzie was born with a twin, January 26, 1931, to the late Thomas and Belzie Shelton. Born and raised in Centerville, Alabama, where she attended and graduated from Bibb County Training School. In 1953 Belzie went on to marry Joe Carson.

In 1961, upon the request of her mother. Belzie relocated to Akron, OH with her 5 children. Where she humbly worked for City Laundry, The Stroh Brewery Company and as a Domestic to provide for her family. Belzie was a devoted member of Timothy Baptist Church, under the pastorage of the late Rev. Norman P. James.

Belzie lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures (her family & friends). She had a heart of gold, never meeting a stranger and was truly the neighborhood mother/grandmother. Belzie was infamously known for her caramel cakes and storytelling. In Belzie’s later years, she became a highly requested speaker at The University of Akron, during Black History Month, sharing her stories and experiences growing up in the segregated South.

Belzie is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Belzie Shelton; twin brother, Thomas Shelton Jr.; siblings, James Franklin, Emma Whitfield, Vesta Moton, Lilly Austin, Ivory DuBose, Mattie Paschel, Florence Sims and Betty Jean Duncan; late husband, Joe Carson; son-in laws, Willie Heflin and Earl McDonald Jr. ; grandchildren, Glenn Shelton, Derrick Shelton, Michelle Mullins, Rashan Lewis and great granddaughter, Ashley Williams.

Belzie leaves to cherish her sweet memories her 5 children, Margie Heflin, Loree McDonald, Levonia (Eugene) Lewis, Michael and Christopher Carson Sr. ; sisters, Algusta Worthy and Betty Joe (Daniel) Worthy; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Franklin; brother-in-laws, J.C. Sims and George Duncan; grandchildren, Leonard Shelton, Tracey Mullins, Eugene R. Lewis, Tara (Bryan) Dalco, Earl (Carla) McDonald III, Shannon Jackson, Michael (Chakayla) Jackson, Shawn Engram, Nathaniel Lincoln, Stephen Lincoln, Chris Carson Jr., Tiera Malone and K’Maira Carson; special nephew, Royce (Tyshawn) Worthy; special Niece, Angela Shelton; 38 Great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and all of South West Akron.
