Birdie (Sykes) Marsh, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1927, to Eugene and Mary Lou nee Sykes Marsh, in Reeves, Tennessee.
Birdie attended school in Tennessee, after school she moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan where she resided for a short period of time before moving to Wadsworth, Ohio where she worked for many years at Dave’s Restaurant on College Street. She met and married Henry Spencer Marsh and moved to Akron where they raised their family. She was a Godly woman and lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Wadsworth, where she worked in the kitchen ministry for many years. She enrolled in Nursing School and settled on becoming a Nurse’s Aide to focus on being a full-time mother to her 4 children.
She was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to her home and her family. She focused on using her talents to assure her children excelled in school, often helping with homework, and science projects. On weekends, she loved to take the children on the bus to “go downtown” for shopping and would always buy Spanish Peanuts and Gum Drops from the Peanut Shop on Main Street. For everyone who knew her, her greatest gift was Love, she loved everyone and never met a stranger and once jumped out of a moving car, to save a little boy from being hit by the car. The rear tires then ran over and broker her ankle.
In her golden years she continued to focus her children and grandchildren. She spent he days riding the bus to go shopping, every day. While at home she enjoyed watching her soap operas, sewing and hosting her family for any reason.
She is preceded in death by; parents, husband, Henry Marsh; brother, Roy Lee Sykes, Alfred, Arthur and Thomas Sykes; sister, Susie Sykes; son, Ronald Eugene Sykes.
She leaves to cherish her memory; sons, Randy Marsh, Tony (Angel) Marsh; daughter, Sally “Sam” Marsh; grandchildren, Michelle Edwards, Shawnta McCraney, Chanell Marsh, Tonae Marsh and Tonia Hargrove, Reginald Marsh, Tori Miller, Ralph Jace Spencer Stembridge; A multitude of great children, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Sommerville Funeral Services,
1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
