Carles (Carlos) Evans, 82, Passed away on September 22, 2021, in Atlanta, GA., at the hospital. He was born on June 2, 1939, in Pontotoc, MS, to J.C. Evans and Minnie Lee Gregory-Williams.

Carlos grew up in Akron, OH. and graduated from South High School in Akron, OH. After high school, he joined the United States Army for three years. Once he was honorably discharged from the Army, he attended The University of Akron in Akron, OH, where he received an Associate Degree in Fire Safety and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. After completing his degree in Fire Safety, he landed a job as a firefighter at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for over 30 years before he retired. After retirement, he worked as a Substitute teacher for several years in the Akron Public School System.

Carlos was a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Rho Chapter. He was a faithful servant of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Akron, OH where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Vacation Bible School Teacher. Carlos was a member of the Mass Choir. He loved his community and was a life member of the NAACP, The Ohio Canal Coalition, and the National Rifle Association. He proudly volunteered at the Democratic Headquarters for the re-election for President Obama, attended the 2008 Inauguration of President Obama, and participated in the Justice Center March in Washington, D.C. and Gena 6 Demonstration. He also was a speaker at the Storks Nest and BEMADD Social Action Group.

Carlos had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. He had been to Toronto and Montreal, Canada, Yokosuka and Tokyo, Japan, Alaska, and much of the U.S.A. He was very athletic and enjoyed swimming, where he won numerous gold medals at the local Senior Olympics. He enjoyed tennis, walking, canoeing and camping too, but most of all, he loved riding his motorcycle.

Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. Evans and Minnie Lee (Gregory)Evans-Williams, and a brother, Jaime Evans. Carlos is survived by his sons, Carlos (Princess) Evans, Atlanta, GA, James Evans, Morrow, GA, Darrell McCormick, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jason Prince, Akron, OH; daughter, Renee Evans-Smalls ( Eric), Dallas, TX; sister, Sabrina Evans-Harrison; Grandchildren, Darren Evans, and Bailey Prince; Nieces, Katina Newman Cloud, and Shavon Newman, and other loving relatives.

A viewing will be held at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH 44320, October 5, 2021, between 4 PM-6 PM.

A memorial service will be held at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH 44320, at 1 PM, October 6, 2021. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, 150 Glendale Ave, Akron, OH 44302. The family will greet friends and relatives between 4 PM-6 PM, October 5, 2021.
