Cheryl Ann Stubbs (McElrath) went home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2022, surrounded by family.
She was born November 1, 1948, to the late Mamie Tillison (Ball). Cheryl attended Barberton Public Schools and graduated from Barberton High School. She moved to Akron where she met and married Bert Allen Powers Sr on October 4, 1969, they were married 21 years at the time of his death. From this union, they were blessed with a son Bert Allen Powers Jr, and daughter Latasha Powers. She accepted Christ early in life and instilled the love of the lord in her children. She taught Sunday school and performed her duties as a servant of Christ at Refuge Tabernacle under the late Pastor Ruby Veal. She currently was a member of South Street Mission Church alongside her daughter. Cheryl was a devoted mother who served on the PTA board and often volunteered in her children’s classrooms. She loved caring for the elderly and was an STNA for over 30 years. She ended her career early as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2010 due to illness. She enjoyed getting dressed up and going to see various plays and movies. She loved changing the color of her hair and wearing lots of jewelry. Cheryl was a loving grandmother who took pride and joy in helping raise her four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Steve and Lessie Ball (whom she affectionately called Momma and Daddy), mother and stepfather Albert and Mamie Tillison; husband, Bert Powers Sr., and son, Bert Powers Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Latasha Powers (Robert Jackson) of Akron, OH, step children, (from the union with Calvin Stubbs) Calvin Shropshire of Baton Rouge, LA, Carlos Shropshire of Cleveland, OH, Charles Shropshire and Tameisha Shropshire of Akron, OH; grandchildren, Alysia Powers, Atasia Powers, Amicia Powers, and Ahmere Williams all of Akron, OH; great-grandchildren, Armani’ Powers, Elijah Brown, Emmanuel Brown, and Promise Williams all of Akron, OH; sisters, Debbie Tillison, Gail Tillison of Orrville, OH, Melissa (Skibo) Sims of Dallas, NC.; brothers, Chris (Kim) Ball and Barry Tillison of Orrville, OH, Mark (Sherri) Tillison of Huntersville, NC; special son, Andre Williams of Akron, OH, and a host of relatives and friends.
