Donna Mae Grimes, age 77, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on June 10, 2022. She was born in Akron where she spent her youth and adult years. She was a graduate of South High School and attended Akron University.
Donna, affectionately referred to as Dee Dee by family, Donna Mae by close friends and Donna G. by the younger generation was a beautiful soul. She loved spending time with family and friends, particularly her grandchildren. Donna collected beautiful arts and crafts especially around Christmas time, one of her favorite Holidays. She has an authentic and unique collection of dolls, not just any dolls but vintage and hard to find dolls that she adored.
Donna was an avid gardener and loves beautiful flowers. Donna retired after 20 years of working for Roadway Express in the payroll department. She was a faithful and committed member of The House of the Lord. She joined in 1977 on Thornton St. Committed to seeing souls saved and lives changed, Donna dedicated herself to the Usher Board, Altar Workers and Prayer Ministries. Donna was a servant of the Lord!
Those who knew Donna could describe her as witty, humorous and a big sports fan. She was proud to share with all! She was a proud member of The Lebron James Grandmother’s Club. She admired and respected President Barak and Michelle Obama and commemorated his historical moment through her love for arts and crafts.
She is survived by her sons, David Wheeler and Larry Grimes (Robin); her sisters Kathy Smith (Marvin) and Cheryl Wheeler; her brother Sampson Tyner; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, special cousin Valerie Pittman and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her late husband and life love, Lloyd Grimes; mother Gussie Wheeler; father, Sampson Tyner; brother Ronald Wheeler; sister Janice Wheeler, and sister Barbara Wheeler.
Donna favorite scripture was: “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should no perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
