Dora “Louise” Colbert-Bingham, 78, gained her Heavenly Wings on October 24, 2025, after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends. Born on April 19, 1947, to Delores Colbert and her biological father, Walter Simmon, who passed away six months before her birth. She was raised in Akron, Ohio, by her mother, Delores, and her stepfather, Joe H. Roger. She attended Akron public schools and graduated from Central High School class of 1966. After graduating, she moved to Pomona, California, and attended IBM School of Business, graduating at the top of her class as a keypunch operator, working a short time there before returning to Akron, Ohio. Later, she became a State-certified nursing assistant and worked for several years at St. Thomas Hospital and at several nursing home facilities in and around Akron.
She married Kevin L. Bingham on December 31, 1994. And shared thirty years of marriage. They moved to Columbus at the start of their grandchildren’s births. Remaining in Columbus until both of their passing.
Louise was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Kevin, in February 2025; parents, Delores Colbert and Joe H. Rogers; her sister, Linda M. Colbert Oden; and her brother, Robert Glenn Colbert.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and memories her loving daughters, Kamala D. Colbert (Atlanta, GA) and Dana K. Colbert-Gaines (Harry) (Columbus, Ohio). Bonus daughter Alayna Bingham (Greensboro, NC). Devoted Grandchildren Jimmy Jr, Jaylon, Jadore, Jaivian Wilson, Devonairre Lawrence, and Jordan Bingham. Loving sisters, Joann Colbert and Arvilla Colbert Jones. Half-brothers Todd Burros and Larry Hoyle. Special niece Asheley J. Colbert, great niece Kennedi S. McKnight, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Special sandbox lifetime friend Nita Roper. Devoted friends, Peaches Taylor, Alfreda, and Lawrence Jennings, friend/sister Lisa Gills, and sister-in-law Carolyn “Binky” Colbert Brown.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 11:00 am until 11:30 am at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
