Mrs. Evelyn Hendon (Mrs. Moonie) age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on June 23, 2022.
Evelyn was born September 27, 1935, in Laurel, MS, to the late Nathan and Lillie Evans.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Lillie Evans, her loving husband, Eugene Hendon; sons, Gary, Jimmy and Terry Hendon; daughter, Jean Cantrell-Surles; grandchildren, Karla Hendon, Donnie Cantrell, Nina Cantrell-Brown, Derrick Hendon and Terrance Lemons and brother, Billy Evans.
Evelyn married Eugene in 1949. They had 3 beautiful children in Laurel, MS. They then went on to move to Akron, OH in 1956, having 4 more beautiful children, making Akron their home.
Evelyn was a faithful member of the Holiness Church of Christ, Her Christian life was a beautiful one, she was a walking light and she influenced others with her lovely spirit. In her earlier years you could find her enjoying her children and grandchildren, she loved cooking and baking, going to bible study, prayer meetings and church. She enjoyed time with friends, thrift shopping, garage sales and Bingo. Evelyn always had a big heart and cared deeply for others; she raised a village of many! She leaves a legacy behind, and she leaves a piece of herself in all of us.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her two sons, Kenny Hendon and Nathan Hendon; daughter, Vivian Hendon and all of Akron, Ohio; sister, Betty Jean-Lockhart of Ontario, CA Jesse Greene of Washington, DC, Frank (Bobbie Jean) Evans of Laurel, MS; Robert (Helen) Evans of Chicago, IL, John (Julia) Evans of Laurel, MS, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, family and friends.
