Gods beloved son, Ezzard Bernard McCall, entered his resting place with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, on his sister Mary (Molly) Tabler’s birthday. Ezzard was the tenth child out of eleven siblings. He was born September 29, 1952, to the late Arthur and Sara McCall, in Millbrook, Alabama.
Ezzard was a devoted resident of Akron, Ohio. He attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from Buchtel High School class of 1970. EZ, as his friends and family knew him, loved his only daughter Tamika Collins. His friends spoke of how proud he was of her on many occasions. Ezzard had a passion for tennis, playing 2 to 3 times a week. He enjoyed playing chess with Bones, his beastie of 50 plus years. And in his quiet time, he loved going to the lake for fishing. EZ loved his sports, jazz, and singing. He was suave, debonaire, and the constant gentleman. And some said he had a smile that would light up a room. Ezzard was an avid hand dancer, he and his sisters would cut a rug with all that twirling, but they looked great on the dance floor. Then, there were the nieces that could do a little something, but he would always say, “Am I going to lead or you?” in his smooth-talking voice. EZ retired with 30 years of service as a dispatcher with the City of Akron Sewer Maintenance department. He was also employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sarah McCall; siblings, Darrel McCall, Mary (Molly) Tabler, Charles McCall, Gloria Tucker, Mattie Steward, LeeCount McCall and Sandra James; extended siblings, Frances Reid, Benny Fountain and Lawrence Little.
Ezzard leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted daughter, Tamika Collins; siblings, Deliah “Joanne” Tabler, Lil (Paul) Evans, Carlisa (Curt) Allen, bonus sister, Sheila Fambro; significant other, Renata Hill and best friend Ivery “Bones” (Gladys) Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family wants to say thank you to the amazing and wonderful staff at Phoenix of Fairlawn, formerly known as Windsong Nursing Home. Words cannot express my deep gratitude towards you all. Thank you for the love and care your staff showed my daddy. The loving, and supportive staff at Gentiva Hospice. And to all those that came to his home to help, those who came by the hospital, and those who came by the nursing home with a muffin, a plate, a prayer and a kind word, you are all loved and greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Pamela Collins.
