James Henry Smith was born on January 17, 1950, in Ravenna, Ohio to the late James Arthur and Sallie Ann Smith.

James attended John R. Buchtel (1040) and worked at Ledco Door Inc. for 8 years and Summit Heat Treating for 10 years. His passion for working on cars led to a career as an Auto Mechanic that spanned over 30 years. In1996, he met the love of his life, Abigal Smith.

James loved spending time with his wife, family and friends. Always giving a friendly hello to all that passed his way. He is best known for his affectionate laugh.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur and Sallie Ann Smith; daughter, Jennifer Rose Smith; brother, Richard Smith; sister, Patricia Smith and Peggy Smith.

James leaves to forever cherish his memory, his loving wife of 30 years, Abigail Smith; sons, Jeffrey (Lydia) Proctor, JuWan (Stephanie) Greer, James (Tiana Smith, Dwight (Kecia) Smith, Charles Truss and James (Tanya) Truss; brother, Larry Smith; brothers-in-law, Elvis (Marie) Jackson, Shaundallantone Jeffries, Stephon (Stacy) Jeffries; sisters-in-law, Lolita (Jerome) Quinn, Curtis Jeffries, Rhonda Hodges; and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320.
