Jessie Mae Baker was born on January 19th, in Weir, Mississippi and born into eternity on October 9, 2022.
She was preceded in death by Mother Betty Harrison and father, Ozzie Potts.
Jessie relocated to Akron, Ohio, in her early teens. She attended Buchtel High School, and later took vocational classes to become a secretary/office assistant. She worked as an office assistant at Hairston Washer and Dryer for several years where she exhibited exemplary customer service and developed life-long friendships.
To know Jessie was to love her. Jessie possessed the type of loving, kind spirit that embraced everyone and made them instantly feel like family. Her greatest joys were laughing and joking with her kids and grandkids and hanging out with her family. Jessie was a phenomenal cook and baker, with skills that she inherited from her mother. All who were blessed to taste these culinary delights, were left wanting more. And yes, everyone had their favorites. Jessie also enjoyed music, and hand dancing. Later in life, she discovered her love of travel, casinos, and driving up and down the California coast.
Jessie’s children wish that everyone could have a mom like her. She embodied all the wonderful characteristics that all kids would handpick if they were allowed to choose their mother. She breathed love, encouragement, and kindness into their lives while demonstrating a quiet strength and resilience. Jessie’s superpower was making everyone feel special and a part of her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory children; Sonya (Edward) Taylor, Vicki Baker (primary caregiver), Anthony Baker, and stepson John (Betty) Adams; sister, Mary Sobah; grandchildren Anthony Fox, Kathryn Lee Keaton, Alexandria Taylor, Greyson Taylor, and Ava Taylor; as well as great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends whom she loved very much.
