John H. Taylor

John H. Taylor, 93, went to his heavenly resting place on Wednesday May 29, 2024. He was born on September 14, 1930, in Lowmoor, Virginia to Regent Sampson and Robert Taylor.  John was a proud graduate of Akron North High School where he participated in many different extra-curriculars activities but thrived while playing on the North High baseball team.  He later went on to play for several Akron-based baseball leagues after graduation.  John was not only athletic but prided himself in being a very well-dressed man as well as a lover of music with jazz music being his favorite.  Upon graduation John joined the U.S. Army and served his country overseas during the Korean War.  Upon his return he began working at the General Tire Company until he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he then worked for American Airlines for 22 years.  After retiring from American Airlines, he then returned to Akron, OH and began a part time job at the Akron Public Utilities Garage.  He continued working for an additional 20 years until the age of 85.

John was a member of Christ Centered Church for years. His favorite saying was always “Paramore got down today”

John was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Robert “Noonie” Woody and William “Blackie” Washington, sisters Kathryn “Kitten” Jefferson and Roslie Woody, and grandson Leaon Jerome Taylor.

John leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Renae D. Taylor, Julie B. Taylor of Dallas, TX, and Yasmin J. Taylor of Oxford, NC; grandson, Lamont McMillan II who was a devoted caregiver for John, grandson, Julian Smith of Los Angeles, CA, grandson, Sage Taylor of Oxford, NC; granddaughter, Alexis Marstiller of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Siara Baker of Dallas, TX, great grandsons Lamarion Womack and Lamont McMillan III, great granddaughter Lucca Smith, The Jefferson Family who were his devoted nieces and nephews, very special companion and friend, Gladys Shambry; close friends, Alfred and Lois Shambry, The Jones family, His coffee cup crew , and his bonus children, Kenney Sharpe Jr. and Rita Jackson.

Friends may call on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
