John Ragins

John Ragins was born on April 8, 1932 to Rufus and Katie Ragin in Santee, South Carolina. John left Santee to find a better life. He moved to Detroit where he joined the Army. He met his wife Jessie who talked to him about getting a job at Chyrsler Motor Company. John was called to active duty and served his country in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Detroit where he worked for Chrysler for 49 years where he never missed a day or was late.
John enjoyed family, travelling, playing cards and going to the YMCA. Before COVID, John and Jessie went to the YMCA every Monday – Friday and met many new people who became friends.

John departed this life on Tuesday April 19, 2022. He was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy (Lucius) and Phyfine (Mathias) Mary Jane; brothers George, Hercules (Ann) and Richard nieces Erica and Rosalind, nephews Duke and Lucious Jr.
John leaves to cherish his precious memory and celebrate his life: his loving wife Jessie Ragins, children: Robin (Neal); Dennis (Wanda); Robert ( Regina); Torris and John Gentry. Nieces Lila, Alma, Lorrien, Lynne Herchelle, Pernese, Carolyn, Dian, Joanne, Delois, Yolanda. Nephews, Richard, Rufus Keitt, Wilbur, Robert Lewis, Eddie Lee, Chazell, Kenneth and Gregory. Eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Sister in-laws Delores and Nancy.

 

Friends may call on Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be live streamed at sommervillefuneralservice.com Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
