Kathy Jo (Hawkins) Brown was born on February 17, 1956, in Alliance, Ohio, to the late Marzett Sr. and Alberta (Kirksey) Hawkins. She was raised in the country and helped tend to the family farm. Kathy dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at Holy Temple COGIC and later joined Noble St COGIC where she developed her love for family, faith, and community.
As the eldest child, she lovingly embraced her role as big sister to Amy, Ariane (Yonnie), and Marzett Jr., forming bonds that remained strong throughout her life. Kathy graduated from Alliance High School in 1974, where she was a proud cheerleader and was crowned Winter Sports Queen during her senior year. In 1976, she married Charles Dailey. Although their union did not last, it was blessed with two children, Celena (mother of Baustin and Celebrity) and Damian (father of Dakayla).
In 1990, Kathy relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where she began her career at Nationwide Insurance. In 1997, she married the love of her life, the late Edwin Brown. Together, they blended their families and were affectionately called “Maw Maw” and “Paw Paw” by their grandchildren, living a life filled with love and harmony. Kathy gained her mother-in-law, the late Evelyn Brown, and four brothers-in-law—Cedric, Stacey, Kelvin, and Richard—who affectionately called her “Sis,” along with a host of extended family. They loved to travel and often included their grandchildren on their special adventures. In 2010, Kathy and Edwin moved to Spring, Texas, for his job transfer. There, she found a new home church, The Daily Bread, where she was lovingly known as “Mother Brown.” Her nurturing spirit touched countless lives, and she was truly a grandmother figure to everyone she met with her congregation and community.
She later joined the Revival House Church in 2025 as her former church moved further away. In 2014, Kathy professionally served as a dedicated Paraprofessional at Kreinhop Elementary in the Klein Independent School District. Her natural gift for guiding and comforting children made her a beloved member of the school community. Kathy found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
She loved cooking, baking, sewing clothes, decorating her home, gardening, watching TV, going for walks, and chatting with her long-distance family on the phone. She had a special gift for making every space feel like home and every person feels seen and loved. Kathy was known for giving the most heartfelt hugs and praying for anyone in need. She sent text prayers to everyone she cared about, every day. On the morning of October 17th, 2025, Kathy’s life ended tragically and unexpectedly in her Spring, Texas home.
Though her passing was sudden, her legacy of love and warmth will live on through the many lives she touched. Her unwavering faith, radiant smile, and deep devotion to her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Kathy will be forever remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the light she carried into every room. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Temple of Faith Church of God in Christ, 1221 E. Patterson St. Alliance, Ohio. Friends may call at the church one-hour prior.
