Lonney “Lummy” McCullars Sr., passed away July 3, 2022, in Akron, Ohio at the age of 98. He was born January 29, 1924, in Akron, Ohio, to James McCullars and Pearlie Mae Matthews.
He attended Akron Public Schools, where he excelled in academics and was a stellar student.
Lonney worked and retired from the Akron Board of Education and The University of Akron. Affectionately known as “Lummy”, he enjoyed cowboy movies and documentaries. He met and married, Mamie Frances (Roberts), and they enjoyed a marriage of 43-years. To their union were born three sons and one daughter. He cared deeply for his family, as the life of the party he kept everyone laughing with his quick wit. He was loyal to his friends and had a curious nature; he loved to ask questions.
Lonney was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; sons, Calvin and Reginald “Reggie”; daughter, Amber; brothers, Grady and Absolon “Ab”; sister’s, Mamie, Elizabeth, Georgia, Ruby, and Hazel.
He leaves to cherish his memory, son, Lonnie Jr.; daughter, Valerie; grandchildren, Quinita, Nicole, Nijel, and Branden; loving companion, Elizabeth Dent, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
