It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Nancy Phyllis Wilson, who departed this life on Thursday, October 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 20, 1949, Nancy, affectionately known by many as “Nana”, “Aunt Nan”, “Miss Nancy” or “Lil’ Girl” was cherished by family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
After retiring from Interim Health Care with more than twenty years of service caring for her patients who quickly became family to her, our little lady continued expressing her unwavering kindness, unconditional love, and compassion. Now instead of caring for her patients she redirected that same dedication back into family, work, and community. A beloved faithful member of Dominion Family Church, you would find her on Sunday mornings in attendance with her two great-grandsons in her pew with her pillow and a praise. When she wasn’t traveling visiting loved ones, or on a bus trip to a casino you could be sure to find her in her recliner, watching her shows and without a doubt on the phone talking to somebody (usually her lifelong friend Sherry, or her birthday buddy Patricia or her friend and sister in Christ, Sis. Gina) and even after all of that she still found time for her passion to cook and never disappointed with a meal or a poundcake.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Gloria A. Wright and Rubin Dexter Sr.; son, “Baby” Emmett Wilson; daughter, Nicole Wilson; sisters, Claudia “CoCo” Bowens, Lois Rogers, Gwendolyn Dexter and Chonitia Reese; brothers, David Wright Heatherington, Aaron Dexter and Donnie Reese.
Nancy leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Alfonso Dexter of Atlanta, GA, Anthony Dexter and Shamia Wilson of Akron, OH, Gloria “Jean” (bonus child); five grandchildren, Charde, LaTarvia, Allonna, Jasmyne (Darion) and Isaac; great-grandchildren, LaNiaja, Anthony, Ashton, April, Amia, Darion and Jayce; siblings, Teri Dexter of Akron, OH, Nicole (Jerome) Felton of Utica, NY, Kenny Dexter, Michael Dexter, Maria Reese, Michelle Reese all of Buffalo, NY, Pamela Wright, Stefan Wright of Las Vegas, NV, Rubin Dexter Jr. of St. Bernadino, CA, Keshia Swanson and David Dexter of Niagara Falls, NY. In addition to a host of nieces and nephews as well as countless friends and loved ones her family Nancy’s memory will live on for generations to come. Amongst all, she cherished her special bond with friend, brother, driver Mr. Frank “Cat-Daddy” Smith a true friend through and through.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at Dominion Family Church, 90 W. Thornton Street, Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
