Paul Leonard Matthew Jones Jr., affectionately known as “Junior” and “PisJuice,” passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Canton, Ohio, at the age of 78. Born on February 28, 1948, in Alliance, Ohio, Paul was the cherished son of Paul Leonard Matthew Jones Sr. and Esther Dorothy (Moody) Jones.
A lifelong resident of Alliance, Paul attended Franklin Elementary, B.F. Stanton Middle School, and Alliance High School, graduating with the Class of 1967. In May 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War as a tank driver. He was honorably discharged in 1974, returning home as a proud veteran. Shortly thereafter, Paul began working for Conrail at the Alliance train yard, where he remained until his retirement in 1980.
On May 21, 1974, Paul married the love of his life, Freddie Ann (Howell) Jones. Their union of 52 years was blessed with eight children, three of whom survive him: Tiara Jaleela Jones, Tiana Jalisa Corrine Jones, and Aqueela Kameera Jones. Paul’s granddaughter, Jaleela Ann Jones, also survives him and carries forward his legacy.
Paul’s life was defined by his passions and his unwavering dedication to family and community. At the age of 32, he discovered a love for golf that would shape his life and the lives of those around him. A self-taught golfer, Paul competed on the Tornado Tour and won numerous tournaments across Canton, Akron, and Cleveland. His enthusiasm for the sport extended to his family, teaching his wife and daughters to play the game. Freddie Ann became a 21-time consecutive Women’s Sleepy Hollow Country Club Champion under his guidance. His daughter Tiara won her first tournament at age six and achieved success in junior, high school, and collegiate golf events. Tiana went on to achieve over 200 tournament victories, five national collegiate championships, the 2009 Ohio High School State Championship, and became the seventh African American woman to earn PGA Class A Professional status.
Beyond golf, Paul enjoyed roller skating, hunting, fishing, carving, football, baseball, and spending time with his family. Whether playing foosball in the living room or assisting with school projects late into the night, Paul’s presence was a constant source of love and support. His artistic talents often earned his daughters accolades for their school projects, and he delighted in completing home improvement projects with them—teaching valuable skills like changing tires, landscaping, flooring, drywalling, painting, building patios, sheds, dog houses, etc., along the way.
Paul’s culinary talents were another hallmark of his life. He loved to cook, barbecue, and bake, with banana pudding, chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, and sweet potato pie among his favorite creations. His kitchen was a place of joy and togetherness. Paul enjoyed daily dinner time with his family.
A man of deep generosity and community spirit, Paul gave freely of his time and expertise. He coached softball teams, high school golf, and provided golf lessons through The First Tee programs in Canton, Akron, and Cleveland.
