Pheobie P. Carter, 71, passed away June 24, 2024.
Pheobie P. Carter (Slack), 72, of Akron, Ohio, was called to her eternal rest on June 24, 2024. Born on December 27, 1952, Pheobie was a lifelong resident of Akron and leaves behind a legacy of love and service that touched the lives of many.
Pheobie is survived by her devoted daughters, Stephanie and her spouse Taylor Fannin, Token Decora Carter, and Unique Baylee Carter; her beloved son, Andre’ Jeffery Edwin Price; her dear sister, Linda Slack; her brother, Fred Slack and his spouse Michele; along with her cherished grandchildren, De’Andre Amani’ Price, Ciera’ Lynise Price, Ja’Mani Henderson, Antinya L. McCants, AJ McCants, Andre’ Jeffery Edwin Jr Price, Dreylin Amiri Price, Kameron Tiah Carter, Kennedy Lovely Sentel Davis, and KenDre’ Amarion Dominiq Carter; and her treasured great-grandchild, Sekani Wanda Jean Hunter. Cherished Nieces and Nephews Sierra, Richard, April, Amber, Daimyo, Nsaa (Larcina), Samadhi, and Royal. She joins in peace her late parents, William and Larcina Capel Slack, and her brother, William ‘Butch’ Slack.
A proud alumna of Garfield High School, Pheobie furthered her education at Kent State University where she obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Her professional journey was marked by her roles as an educator, mental health counselor, social worker, and admissions administrator at her alma mater, Kent State University.
Pheobie’s dedication to her community was unwavering as she actively served in the Akron Alliance Fellowship and was a committed member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Her involvement in these organizations was a testament to her passion for service and community upliftment.
An ardent naturalist, Pheobie found joy in tending to her garden and seeking out the finest natural products. Her love for fellowship with family and friends was a testament to her warm and generous spirit.
A service honoring Pheobie’s life will be held on July 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Sommerville Funeral Services 1695 Diagonal Road, Akron, OH 44320. Pheobie’s enduring spirit of generosity and community dedication will be held in fond remembrance by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
