Phillip Anthony Myricks passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on August 11, 1953, to Cleopatra and Charles Myricks, Sr., he grew up in Akron, Ohio, surrounded by the love of his family, church, and community. He graduated in 1971 from Garfield High School and attended Anderson University.

Born into a musically gifted family, Phil inherited a natural talent for music. He played the violin and cello before ultimately finding his greatest joy in the electric bass guitar. Throughout his musical career, He traveled the country and shared his gifts with several well‑known bands, including I‑Tal, Raz‑Ma‑Tazz, Hard Roads, and Leo Ferguson, among others. He also played for the Arlington Church of God music ministry. Phil was known for his unmistakable “bass man” swagger, smooth voice, big smile, and the way he played with his whole heart and soul.

Not only could Phil make his guitar sing, but his smooth baritone voice delighted audiences as well. Appearing as Felix in his brother Chuck’s musical Paul, he entertained the crowds with his portrayal of the greedy governor and his performance of the song “Lubricate.”

Phil was a man of many passions. He loved sports and was an avid cook whose specialties included sugar cookies, seafood boil, chicken noodle soup, and fried fish—caught and cleaned by his own hands. His ribs, coated in his homemade barbecue sauce, were legendary and frequently requested at family cookouts and gatherings. A devoted fan of the Browns, Cavaliers, and Guardians, he spent countless weekends in spirited debates with his brothers and friends about the highs and lows that is Cleveland sports.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Rev. Cleo Myricks, Phillip is survived by his teenage sweetheart and wife of 22 years, Denise; brothers Ronald and Charles Jr. (Sherri); sister Elizabeth Lee (Michael); stepchildren Candace and Andrew (Michelle) Collins; son Timothy Humbert (Tammara); eight grandchildren; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Arlington Church of God, 539 S. Arlington St. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. Internment Glendale Cemetery.
