Riley Buchanan transitioned to his heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family, on September 21, 2023. He was born on April 25, 1933, in Tuskegee, Alabama to Narcisus and Walter Buchanan.
He moved to Akron in 1951, where he resided until his transition. He retired from the A. Schulman Rubber and Plastics in 1996, after 38 years of service. He was a member of various gospel groups, including the Buchanan Brothers, the Northernaires and the Buchanan Singers. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening. He won numerous “Keep Akron Beautiful” awards for his beautiful back yard. He was a role model and father figure to many. He truly, truly, loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Riley was preceded in death by; his parent, Narcisus and Walter Buchanan; his only son Derick “The Buck” Buchanan; great granddaughter, Joy Brophy; brothers, Wille Buchanan, Booker Buchanan, Jessie Buchanan, John Buchanan, Recarlton Buchanan, James Tyson, T.B. Tyson, Lenon Tyson, Marvin Tyson, and Willie Tyson; sisters, Lucille Riggins, Lillie Harris, Anna Pearl Williams, and Rosie Shepherd.
Left to cherish his memory; his devoted wife of 66 years, Mildred Buchanan; children, Margaret Griffin of Tampa, FL, Marva (Welby) Broaddus, Renee Buchanan Rhone; sisters; Iola Rue, and Addie Gibson; grandchildren, Lynese Buchanan, Tamika Keys, Courtney Brophy of Riverview, FL ( Jay Brophy Jr.), Lenarick and Charles and Letoya, all of Tampa Florida, Welby Charles Broaddus Jr., Ismail Alamin (Candace).; brother in-law, Charles Lockett; sister in-law Linda Lockett; special nephew, Archie Rue. great-grandchildren, Archai Buchanan, Aniyah Hartwell, Jaylen Brophy, Kenyatta Buchanan, Welby Trevon Broaddus, Mishinda Broaddus, Azikiel Alamin, and his partner-in crime, Jazzy Brophy, whom he truly enjoyed being with her this summer.
