Robert Lee Ervin, ”Dog”, was born August 30, 1954, to the late Channie (Ervin) Davis and Jo Willie, in Greenwood, Mississippi. He departed this life March 22, 2024.
At a young age he moved to Toledo, Ohio with his grandmother Rosie Ervin. He attended Toledo Public schools where he excelled in football. He received a scholarship to Michigan where he moved to continue his education and pursue a career in football. He quickly changed his mind and chose to accept an opportunity to attend welding school and pursue a career in the automobile industry. After completing his training, he was hired to work for the Chrysler plant in Twinsburg, Ohio, where he retired after 47 years of service. He loved his job at Chrysler so much that he never missed a day of work. His hard work and dedication were frequently recognized and rewarded by the Chrysler corporation with plaques, pins, and awards.
Robert liked to say that April “chased” him, and April says, Robert chased her. Between the chasing of each other they both got caught and united in a 16-year relationship, finally marrying in 2016.
When he wasn’t working Robert loved to go ballroom dancing and he was very smooth and graceful on the dance floor. Off the dance floor, Robert enjoyed chess, poker, poker, and more poker. For Robert, any day was a great day to watch sports on television or go out to eat at the Golden Coral.
Robert is proceeded in death by his father, Jo Willie; mother, Channie Davis; stepfather, James Davis; grandmother, Rosie; 3 uncles, 2 Aunts; and brother-in-law, Avery Tedford.
He leave to cherish his memory; his loving wife, April; children Robert, Natoria, Quintez, Delorean, Cathy, Roberto, Keisha, Tyrron, Robert and Toni Ervin; 34 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Ivory and Tommy “Cent”; brothers: Ivory and Tommy,(Cent); three sisters, Mary, Eunice, and Sandra; 11 aunts and uncles , and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
