Robert Joseph Myers, 80, of Akron, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
Joe, as he was known by most everyone, was born on September 9, 1942, in Lewisburg, West Virginia to James Perkins and Madeline “Pat” Staats. He graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1959 and from the University of Akron in 1962. After college he enlisted into the US Army where he served the next 3 years. After returning home, Joe spent his career working with non-profit organizations in Community Development in hopes of improving the lives and neighborhoods of others. He was particularly known for his writing skills, and was one of the best grant writers in the state of Ohio. After his retirement, Joe continued to help with his family’s ministry called “Eddy Wayne Ministries,” and spent much time with his special friends John & Debra Deptuch who loved and cared for Joe until the day of his passing.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Edward Wayne. He is survived by his two sons, Elliot Myers and his wife, Dena Wagner, of Wilmington, NC; and Gabriel Myers, of Kissimmee, FL; and by his godson, Zachary Bush, of Akron, OH; and associate and godparent, Paul Green, Cleveland OH, currently living in Ecuador.
A private burial will be held on, Thursday, October 13, 2022, and Joe’s remains will be laid to rest at 10:00 a.m., in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, OH. Later that afternoon, a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm at the Akron Family Restaurant, 250 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio.
