

Samuel “Sam” Shavers, 84, of Akron, Oh, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born October 6, 1940, in Newton Falls, Oh, to the late Samuel and Geraldine Shavers, Sam lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a remarkable aptitude for mechanics.
Sam proudly served his country as a mechanic in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962. Following his honorable discharge, he channeled his mechanical skills into a lifelong career, owning and operating S&S Truck and Tractor Repair for over 60 years. His expertise was renowned, and countless family members and friends could attest to Sam’s ability to fix virtually anything mechanical. Beyond his professional achievements, Sam found joy in sharing his musical talents, playing the organ at his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Arlene Body and Evelyn Floyd; and brother, Richard Shavers
Sam’s life was enriched by the love of his long-term partner and friend, Mysheirdie Wilson. He is survived by Mysheirdie; daughters, Urrainna Wilson and Delilah Jackson of Akron, Oh; children, Yolanda Arkwright, Dan Shavers (Monica), and Candy Green of Canton, Oh; brother, Robert Shavers (Barbara); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
The Shavers family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and Hospice of the Western Reserve in Medina for their compassionate care and support during Sam’s illness.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow. Inurnment services with full military honors will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
