Sunset: July 23, 2022

Toshaye Deshawn Anthony Pope passed away peacefully at Akron Children’s Hospital on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the age of 14 years.

He was born January 16, 2008, the second child of Victoria Pope in Columbus, Ohio. He was a very quiet and loving child. He shared everything with joy with his six siblings. He attended Eastland Academy in Columbus, Oh, where he was an exceptional student and the class clown. He was extremely popular with his classmates and teachers.

In 2019 the family moved to Akron, Ohio and he transferred to the STEM Academy. From the first day his teachers LOVED him. He was a “genius” in math and excelled far above his grade level in reading. At school he was always helping others with their studies and, always stood up to the bullies to defend his friends and classmates. Upon graduation from STEM he started at Hyre Middle School in Ellet and, skipped 7th grade and advanced to the 8th grade class. He became very involved in sports, joining the wrestling team and track and field. In the off season he kept active with boxing. Due to his academic excellence Toshaye and an outstanding essay he submitted, Toshaye was accepted to start the 2022//2023 school year as a freshman at the Akron Early College. In April 2022 he joined the Ellet High School football team. He was so excited to be on a high school football team, it was going to be a challenge and new adventure in his life.

Toshaye was such a positive young man and a natural leader. He will leave a legacy of strength, determination, and commitment to success for his siblings, teammates and everyone who knew him. He was loved deeply and will never be forgotten. He was a light to his family and the world.

He is preceded in death by grandfather, Timothy Washington, Jr.; great-grandparents, Ida Morris, Howard Pope and Linda Williamson, and uncle, Markio Washington.

He is survived by his parents, Timothy and Victoria Washington; brothers, Kyren and Timothy IV; his sisters, Khashi, Lorena, Airess, and Royce; aunts, Jaliyla Muhammad, NaTasha Pope, Ta-shawna Kelso, Felicia Dickerson, Amara Washington, Twyla Winters and Jena; uncles, Wayne Kelso and Raymond Winters; grandmothers, Naomi Hopkins and Marie Washington.

The Washington family would like to give special thanks to everyone that contributed to the go fund me. The doctors, nurses and staff at the Akron Children’s Hospital, the support that we have received from the community, and everyone that made a difference in Toshaye’s life.
