Yancy McWain passed away on May 18, 2026. The middle child and only son of Alma and Gene Paul McWain was born on July 18, 1960, in Greenville, SC. The family relocated to Akron when he was three years old. He graduated from Buchtel High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron where he met Sheri Everson whom he married in 1990. Together they joined Akron Alliance Fellowship Church. His beloved daughters Jacinta, Olivia, and Miriam were born in 1999. Yancy embraced his duties as a girl dad by repeatedly watching High School Musical and Kim Possible, and playing Animal Crossing on Wii. Yancy shared a close relationship with his parents and with his sisters Sharlena Easton (William Ford) and Kim (Henry) Butler. He was a devoted uncle to his niece Donya (Chad) Dickerson and nephew Vernon (Maddie Fuller) McWain-Moore.
Dedicated to health and fitness, he was committed to regular workouts with lifelong friend Michael Barnett. His favorite pastimes included photography, long walks, and watching sports, nature documentaries, and crime dramas.
Yancy worked as an Engineer for Babcock & Wilcox for 40 years, beginning as a co-op student and finishing his career as a Principal Engineer. Critical thinking and attention to detail were his strengths. He was a contributor to The Babcock & Wilcox publication Steam: Its Generation and Use. Yancy served his community through involvement in Neighborhood Watch, and as a member of the Akron Urban League Board of Trustees (1995-1999).
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nancy and Robert Harris, Blanche Porter, and Jack McWain; in-laws, Shepherd and Willette Everson; and his uncle Rev. James McWain.
In addition to his parents and immediate family, he will be remembered by his great-nieces, Claire and Anna Dickerson; great-nephew, Josiah Dickerson; brother-in-law, Shepherd (Kathy) Everson, nephews, Jordan and Matthew (Danielle) Everson, and ?a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Akron Alliance Fellowship Church, 688 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Funeral service will immediately follow.
