Willie Robert Head Sr., 94, passed on April 15, 2022. He was born on June 29, 1927 to the late Eddie and Mamie Head. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio and spent most of his youth growing up in Georgia but spent most of his life living in Akron, Ohio.
During his earlier years, Willie became a member of Good Hope Baptist Church where he first devoted his time to the Church and serving the Lord. Years later he left Good Hope and joined Providence Baptist Church where his Beloved Wife, Erline, was a lifetime member. At Providence, Willie continued his service to the Lord and became heavily involved in service to the Church assuming roles of Church Treasurer, Superintendent of Sunday School and was very involved in the Church’s Vacation Bible School. Willie always tried to do whatever he could to help the Church in service of the Lord.
Willie was known to be the hardest working man in America. He retired from B.F. Goodrich with 47 years of service. Willie and his family also owned a farm in Ravenna, Ohio where he raised and sold pigs.
Willie was a devoted husband, partner and friend to his life-long soulmate Erline Head who passed on July 13, 2021 after nearly 70 years of marriage. From this union was born three children, Willie R. Head, Jr., Kevin L. Head and Alan C. Head.
Willie was proceeded in death by parents, Eddie and Mamie Head, Sisters Versie Smith, Narvell Cole and Gloria Walker; Brothers: Fred, Roosevelt, Verdie, Walter, Melvin and Eddie Jr. Head.
Willie had only a formal grade school level education because he was required to work on their farm to help support the family. But he was a self-learned man who owned hundreds of books. He was very well educated on numerous topics. Willie was a Civil Rights advocate who attended the Great March on Washington in 1963. He was also a member of the local chapter of the NAACP. Willie was also drafted and spent 2 years on active service with the army. Willie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking part in planning family reunions and putting on family dinners.
He leaves to cherish his memories, brother Carl Head, sons Willie Jr. (Stephanie) Head; Kevin (Peggy) Head; Alan (Lillie) Head; special niece Betty Gilmore, eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, two great-great–grandsons and numerous other close family members and friends.
