Lester Powell
Lester Powell was born January 16, 1947 to William and Annie (Wilmington) Powell in New Kinsington, Pennsylvania. He relocated to Ohio with his parents and then Began his education in the Ravenna school system, graduating from Ravenna High School in 1968. He was drafted that same year, doing a tour in Vietnam until injured in the line of duty, requiring a two year recovery in Walter Reed Hospital. Upon returning home, he attended McKeem Electric School. He also married Ruby “Louise” Brown, his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years.
Lester was very active in his Masonic Lodge, achieving Past Master of Phoenix Lodge #112. Les had a deep love and enjoyment of drag racing, music, and fishing. If you were skilled enough, he would let you play a game of chess or two.
He was proceeded in death by his siblings: Thelma Benefield, Gladys Wade, William Powell Jr., Vonzell Powell, Victoria Powll, and his parents. He is survived by his wife Ruby Louise, son Cameron (DeShania) Powell, daughter Sonya (Kenneth) Dillard. Grandchildren, Cameron Powell (Two), Chyina Powell (Doll), Nolyn (Jabari) Parks, and Nicholas Dillard. And one great grandchild, Lilo Parks. Also, his sister Shirley A Powell, best friend Theodore D. Brown, special “son” Ivan Gordon. The other love of his life the Sun Goddess 1970 Buick GS and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
