Demetrius Terrell Burney (aka) Meechie was born on June 10, 1981 to Hermonia Yvette Burney.
He departed this earthly life on April 15, 2021 and was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. Meechie attended Akron public schools and played baseball in his youth; he also accepted the lord at a young age, singing in the youth choir. He loved his aunt Debbie’s cooking. Meechie was so excited when he was able to reunite with his son; he was very family oriented. He loved his family and adored his nieces and nephews. He was “Uncle” Meechie not only to his nieces and nephews but also to his friends’ kids. A very special moment in Meechie’s life is when he became a god dad. Demetrius was extremely close to his grandfather, Herman Matthews and uncle, Avery Miller who were both father figures in his life. He loved to barbecue and invited everybody over. Meechie loved roasting and cracking jokes. He was really the life of every party or family gathering and let’s not forget everybody was his cousin. He was a very hard worker. He loved making money; his last place of employment was Arconic. Demetrius loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and was also a Cleveland Browns fan.
Demetrius was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Janet Burney, and paternal grandmother, Jackie Miller; grandfather, Herman Matthews; special cousin, cliff heller.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Hermonia Yvette Burney; grandmother, Shirley Matthews; daughter, Janai Burney; son, Davion Daniels; god daughter, Journey Heller; sisters, Keisha Burney and Latasha Hunter; special brother, Charles Berry (aka Shay); special aunt; uncle, Stephanie and Avery Miller; aunts, Kathleen Matthews and Jackie (Kookie) Humphrey; uncles, Frederick Burney, Hamp Burney, Duane Matthews and Dwight Beasley; nieces and nephews, Diamond Burney, Aysia Burney, Lacrisa Harris, Jamir Jenkins, Amiya Burney, Jameel Jenkins, Elijah Jenkins; great nephew, Javere Salters Jr (aka Tigger) special cousins, David Burros, Darrin Welch, Terrence Boyd, Jermaine Humphrey, Avery Miller Jr, Ayana Miller, Ashley Miller, Farica Sneed, Jessica Matthews and Michael Mills; special friends, Sidney Sherroll, Chris Simmons (aka Mister), Michelle Todd (aka Boo) Pe Peterson; longtime friend, Talisha Kelson (aka Bae) and a host of family and friends.
Public viewing will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Oh 44320. Private family service will immediately follow. Services will be live streamed at 12:00 noon at sommervillefuneralservice.com Interment Rose Hill Burial Park.
