Mr. James Hancock Jr, age 67, of Decatur, GA transitioned in his home January 25, 2022. He was born October 4, 1953 in Talladega, Alabama to James Hancock Sr and Clara Hancock.
Before he turned 3, his family moved to Alliance OH, where he lived during his school years. James Jr. grew up in Alliance, OH, where he completed his schooling.
A dominant local athlete, he graduated from Alliance High School with offers to play college football, before selecting Tennessee State University and starting as a college freshman. After completing his collegiate career, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia with soon to be wife, Mary R. Hancock to start a career and family. James Jr. went on to create a name for himself embarking on a successful career in construction as a construction manager and superintendent of construction.
James Jr. leaves to cherish his memory mother Clara M. Hancock, sisters Ruby (Willie) Dark and Bernice Hancock of Albion, MI, Dyanne Hancock, Maretta (Michael) Hancock, Theresa (Calvin) Hancock, Myrtis Hawkins and Demita “Jo” Cundiff of Alliance; uncle, Joe Hancock of Alabama. He also leaves children Courtney Parks, Shemika Nesbitt, Lance Z. Hancock, James Hancock III and a number of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends to honor his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his Father, James Hancock Sr; grandparents, Zachary and Onella Hancock; grandmother, Earline Swain; brothers, Richard Hancock, A’reginald Scott, William ”Baldy” Hancock; brother-in-law, Donald Cundiff; uncle Charles Hancock; aunts, Ruth Hancock of Akron, OH and Ruby Curry & Sarah Curry of Columbus, Ohio; uncle, Charles Hancock; nephews, Darin Colbert Jr, James Hancock; cousins, Pam and Angela Dark and Walter Curry III and honor any deceased family not mentioned.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Feed My Sheep Ministries 114 E. Main St. Alliance, OH 44601. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
