Juanita Giles, 84,  passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024. Friends may call Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at The House of the Lord Church, services will immediately follow at Noon.

Juanita Ruth Wade Faison Giles went Home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2024.

Juanita was born on November 29, 1939, to Milton Wade Sr. and Australia Rogers. She is the eldest of 4 with brother Milton Jr. and sisters Sylvia and Violet. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Milton, sister Sylvia, and her eldest son Vernon Faison.

Juanita is a proud graduate of South High School, Class of 1957. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Akron. Juanita was an incredible and distinguished educator in the Akron Public School System for 34 years. She taught at several schools including Ritzman, Rankin, Erie Island, Perkins, Case, and Stewart Afrocentric. She was very active in politics and civic engagement, volunteering for the Summit County Board of Elections, serving on the PTA, and as Ward 4 Precinct committee member.

Juanita aka Aunt Nita, ‘Nit (pronounced Neet), Grandma, Grandma J, Mrs. Giles, and Mom was a sweet, caring, and sincere woman of God. She truly walked by faith. She loved teaching, traveling, plants, gardening, arts & crafts, Tweety Bird, and most of all, her family. Nothing made her happier than being with her family and her home was the place to be for countless cookouts, dinners, holidays, game nights, and family gatherings. Mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, master teacher, mentor, role model, servant-leader, friend; Juanita was and remains all of that and so much more.

She is survived by sister Violet; daughter V. Michelle, sons Verdon Marc and Vincent Marshall; grandchildren Kia, Kimberly, Mitchell, and Sklylar; greatgrandchildren Tim Jr, Kelis, Kevin, Torian, Brandon, Ge’Niyah, Ma’Ryjah, Ray’Annah, Mitchell Jr, Kylee, and Major; great-greatgrandson Asher; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.

May her legacy live on.
