Katherine Washington

Sunrise: May 5, 1944
Sunset: September 3, 2023

Katherine affectionately known as Kat, was born May 5, 1944, in Ashland, Alabama to the late James and Elizabeth Lynch Mosley. She was a graduate of South High School of Akron, Ohio, Class of 1962. She attended the University of Akron, Food Service. Katherine was married to the late Harry R. Washington.

Katherine was a member of The House of the Lord and loved attending service in person and online. She was the first often online with a greeting to all.
Like her mother, Elizabeth and aunts, Ruth Reese and Rosie Kerney, they were all great cooks. After graduation she continued to pursue her career in food service. She was a caterer and held multiple positions, as Sous Chef and Kitchen Manger. Among the places she worked were the Akron Women’s City Club, Yanko’s, Mickeye and Moes, Lou and Hy’s and retiring from the Western Reserve Academy, where the children just loved her and affectionally call Ms. Katherine. She built and had long lasting, loving friendships beyond the workplace with her co-workers. We thank you.

Katherine was the President of the Akron Chapter of the Smith, Williams, Tucker, Street family reunion and loved hosting and attending those outside of Ohio. Especially, those in Georgia and Alabama. She loved her birthplace and often dreamed of returning, saying how peaceful it was there.

Katherine was preceded in death by parents, grandparents, husband and a host of other family members.

Katherine loved her family deeply and was devoted in any way possible. She will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her loving memory daughter, Denise (Barry) McIver; sons, Eric Dancy, Jerome (Michelle) Gordon; grandsons Antwan Dancy, Jayvone (Destyne) Dancy, Kameron McIver, granddaughter Michelle Easter; great grandchildren, Jaymiere, Jiovanni, D’Nyah, D’ierre, Dream and De’Koldest and a host of other relatives and friends.

She will also be especially missed by devoted, like siblings, cousins Ruth Ann Scott and Lee (Linda) Twymon.
Special thank you to friends who were like family throughout the years, we deeply appreciate all that you did for our mother and family.
