Gary Allen Myers was born February 4, 1953 in Massillon, Ohio to Lilly Myers-Burton and Harold Sommerville. Gary became a resident of Akron Ohio at an early age; attending Akron Public Schools. Gary was an avid car lover. He loved tinkering with cars and washing them especially. Gary spent the early part of his adult life working at rubber companies, such as Mowhawk, BF Goodrich, and Trelleborg Monarch. He continued his career working for University Academy Charter School, where he retired. Gary also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, Harold Sommerville; Stepfather, Lonnie Burton; Brother, Jerome Sommerville, and sister Rhonda Sommerville.
Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pamela Denise; Mother, Lilly Myers-Burton; Stepmother, Barbara Sommerville; His brothers, Cedric (Tracy) Sommerville, Terrance Sommerville, and Dwayne (LaNetra) Tomlinson; His sisters, Teresa Sommerville, Brenda Sommerville, Michelle (Mercedes) Sommerville-Bostic, Lawanna Sommerville, Kimberly (David) Betts, and Lynn Tomlinson.
He also leaves behind his daughters, Fawntella (Damon) Parmer of Columbus, Ohio, Natasha (Nylan) Bell, Marguerite (Aaron) Burkett, and Chanel (Denille) McCray; His sons Richie Shinholster and Dallas (Heather) Cook all of Akron, Ohio; His grandchildren, Deirre Cook, Elise (Benyah) Ysrael, Ryan Lee, Arden Bell, Germany Bell, Malachi Burkett, Mekhi Burkett, Carlyle Price, Denille MCray II, Jah’Nel McCray, Christiani McCray, Justin Shinholster, Deshawn Thomas, Dallas Cook III, Lateris Cook, Houston Cook, Shailah Cook and Jaliaya Cook; His great-grandchildren Navii Allen, Nina Cook-Dillard, Nasiyah Ysrael, Satchel Edwards, and Saxon Edwards; His special cousin, Kevin Sommerville; His special friend in Christ, Deacon Dan Davis, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
