Born on April 21, 1949, to Cortelyou and Rosa Lee Terry, Ronald was the cherished middle child between his brothers, Robert J. Terry and Kenneth M. Terry. He was also blessed with loving sisters, Brenda Beavers and Kelley Dixon-Turner.
Ronnie, as he was affectionately known, was raised in a godly home and learned to love the Lord from an early age. He was baptized at the Robert Street Church of God and later served faithfully at the Arlington Street Church of God. Those who knew Ronnie best describe him as level-headed, family-oriented, protective, kind, dedicated, and soft-spoken. He was a tremendous helper, a gentle soul with an even temper, upholding the highest standards in all aspects of his life and rarely angered.
For over 30 years, Ronald bravely faced the challenges of being a dialysis patient, a testament to his remarkable resilience and enduring spirit.
A proud graduate of John R. Buchtel High School and the University of Akron, Ronald was a respected member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. During his school years, he was an active and talented athlete, particularly excelling in football. After college, he embarked on a successful career, working for the General Tire Company and the Akron Beacon Journal.
Beyond his professional life, Ronald was a highly accomplished martial artist, holding a black belt in karate and an expert in judo. He not only achieved great skill but also shared his knowledge and passion by teaching and instructing in the martial arts arena. He was also a member of the “Ronnie Club,” a social organization where he enjoyed camaraderie with friends.
Preceded in death by parents and wife, Laura Radcliff Terry.
Though he did not have children of his own, Ronald’s heart was overflowing with love for his family. He doted on his nieces Mishell and Linda (Allen), and nephews Jamal, Victor, Josef, and Sean. He also cherished his great-nephews and great-niece, Jonah, Allen III, and Olivia. Through his profound love and guidance, he became a beloved father-figure to his Goddaughter Nicole Leland Robinson and Latia Hall and his Godson Ronnelle Jerome Kidd and Phillip Williams.
